The hidden world of plant roots represents a fascinating frontier in understanding the complexities of cropping systems. My research aims to explore the structural and functional intricacies of roots, shedding light on their inherent beauty and uncovering their pivotal role in enhancing crop resilience to future climatic extremes. By investigating the diverse root systems of various crop species (with a strong focus on cereals), we seek to unravel the underlying mechanisms that govern root development and water uptake, ultimately providing crucial insights into improving crop resilience under water-limited conditions.
