I’m a transition researcher and social entrepreneur, with training in the area of Planning and Sustainability. I now have more than 20 years of experience in facilitating regional and local participatory sustainability initiatives in more than 60 communities, with NGOs, business, universities and local governments.
While in the Catholic University of Portugal I was one the founders of a Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development, recognized by the United Nations University. Also coordinated two post-graduations on Local Sustainability, 16 trainings, 30 action-research projects, including more than 200 participatory and scientific events.
I got a PhD in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies in 2022 at the University of Lisbon, with the thesis "Municipalities in Transition: a governance system for navigating transformative change in tipping point times". I am dedicating to climate participatory action research, exploring synergies between community-led initiatives and local governments, working at the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes and supporting the Transition Movement. I live in Porto, Portugal. A country with great vulnerability to climate change but with a reasonable performance in climate protection. I am a Climate Reality Leader trained by Al Gore.
