My research investigates the taxonomic and functional diversity of bacteria in polar oceans and sea-ice; combining molecular and biogeochemical evidence over time and space. One major focus is bacterial seasonality in the Arctic and Antarctic Oceans, studied via autonomous technologies and eDNA monitoring.
Prior, I've researched different aspects of marine microbial ecology, biogeography and ecophysiology at University of Oldenburg, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Technical University of Denmark, and Australian Institute of Marine Science. My research has a strong interdisciplinary and collaborative orientation; combining 'omics, bioinformatics, ecophysiology, and chemical ecology.
