Kathryn Coleman, PhD is an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne. Kate is a neurodivergent, feminist, artist, researcher and teacher. Her praxis includes taking aspects of her theoretical and practical work as a/r/tographer to consider how artists, artist-teachers and artist-students use site to create place in digital and physical practice.
She is the co-lead of SWISP Lab with Dr Sarah Healy. Kate is the AARE co-convenor of the Arts Education Practice Research SIG, and CI on ‘The Learning with the Land’, SSHRC project at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education. Kate is an Academic Convenor for the University of Melbourne, Petascale Campus. Her research and teaching is positioned in the intersection of art, design, digital, practice, culture and data.
She has demonstrated experience and expertise in a range of teaching, learning and research communities in her years as an educator. She is Associate Professor in Visual Arts & Design Education at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education and University of Melbourne, and Petascale Campus Academic Convenor.
Kate is a leader in a number of communities of practice in art education, digital pedagogies, arts based educational research methodologies, creative curriculum design and digital badge and evidence-based portfolios. She is the President of Art Education Australia.
Associate Professor Coleman is interested in the intersection of art, digital spaces, practice, and culture and data. Her research into practice includes teacher practices, creative practices, practices of identity, knowledge as practice and digital practices.
