Anthony is a Professor of Architecture (Māori) and is of Ngāti Awa and Ngāti Ranana descent. His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) from the University of Auckland, a Master of Architecture from The Bartlett at University College London, and a Ph.D. in Architecture from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He has practiced in Aotearoa New Zealand, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands. In 2002 founded his own practice, WHAT Architecture (http://www.whatarchitecture.com), in London, which has received Royal Institute of British Architects, New Zealand Institute of Architects, and many other architectural awards for its innovative projects. A registered architect in four countries, including The Netherlands (SBA), the United Kingdom (ARB, RIBA), and Aotearoa NZ (NZIA NZRAB) and Australia (ARB NSW), Dr. Hoete has designed over 200 projects including residential, commercial, and educational buildings, furniture, and marae projects, predominantly in Europe but also in Aotearoa New Zealand. He is the MD of the London-based property developer, Game of Architecture, which specialises in build-to-rent affordable housing made from cross-laminated timber. He has taught at two of the world's top three architecture schools which includes TU Delft (QS rank #2) and The Bartlett UCL (#3), as well as the esteemed Architecture Association in London, Sint Lucas Architektur in Brussels, the American University of Beirut, and the RMIT in Melbourne.
Anthony is a Trustee of The NZUK Link Foundation (http://www.nzuklink.com) which, under the Patronage of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Princess Royal, serves to enhance the close relationship between NZ and the UK. Anthony is an Adjunct Professor at the RMIT where he participates in the RMIT European Doctoral Innovators (REDI) programme (https://www.rediprogram.eu/) which is co-funded by the European Union to create new research and enterprise links between Australia and Europe. He is an Honorary Research Scholar at the UCL and was the Pouwhakahaere (Director) at QuakeCoRE (http://www.quakecore.nz/welcome-anthony-hoete-pouwhakahaere-maori-associate-director-maori/), a NZ Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) for seismic resilience funded by the NZ Tertiary Education Commission.
