Coordinator of the Research Group in Energy, Environment and Comfort (EEC) of ADAI-LAETA.
LAETA stands for Associated Laboratory of Energy, Transports and Aeronautics. It is a R&D laboratory with more than 200 senior investigators from the Universities of, Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra and Beira Interior and has been evaluated with the classification of Excellent by the Portuguese Science Foundation. The EEC Research Group has about 50 persons, 15 of them being researchers holding a Ph D degree.
President of the Direction Board of ADAI, a non-profitable research association connected to the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Coimbra. Has launched in 1994 the Measurement and Testing Laboratory of ADAI, which is accredited by the Portuguese Institute of Accreditation since 1996. He is the Technical Responsible of this Laboratory that is the job place of 9 persons.
Vice-President of Rehva. Chair of the Education Committee of Rehva.
Performed research on the fields of indoor environmental quality, energy efficiency and sustainability, vehicle testing and aerodynamics,. Principal investigator and coordinator of 30 research projects sponsored by international, national and private organizations.
Author and co-author of 180 technical papers, book chapters and conference communications. Reviewer of research proposals (FP7 of European Union, Portuguese Innovation Agency, Flanders Science Agency, Ministry of Science of Italy, Polish Science Agency) and of scientific papers submitted for publication in international journals and conferences.
Has given university courses about Indoor Environmental Quality, Measurement Systems and Instrumentation, Energy and Transports, Data Acquisition and Processing, Turbomachines, and Heat Transfer. Has given invited lectures in Brasil, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, United States of America and Turkey.
Supervisor of students in master and Ph.D. programs. (8 Ph D theses concluded, 7 running, 4 of them to be concluded in 2013; 23 M Sc theses concluded, 2 running).

In 1998, participated in the creation of the spin-off company WSBP (www.wsbp.eu) at Instituto Pedro Nunes, the Incubator of the University of Coimbra. Nowadays is a partner and a member of the Direction Board of WSBP. The company develops monitoring solutions for buildings and has 7 permanent employees
