I am currently working at the Federal Institute of Hydrology in Germany as member of the International Centre for Water Resources and Global Change. Within the Centre, I am part of the GEMS/Water Data Centre, hosting the global water quality database GEMStat and coordinating efforts towards the UN SDG indicator 6.3.2. I initially studied Marine Biology, completing my M.Sc. at Christian-Albrechts University and GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany. My thesis focused on the utilization of organic phosphorus compounds by the cyanobacterium Trichodesmium, combining culture experiments and gene expression analysis. Following this, I moved to the UK for my PhD at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. My work concentrated on the parameterization of the global biogeochemical model PlankTOM10 for coccolithophores, calcifying phytoplankton, and incorporated laboratory experiments to study the effects of light, temperature and nutrient concentrations on different coccolithophores together with subsequent model parameterization based on these experiments. Afterwards, I worked at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia carrying out phytoplankton ecology studies in the Arabian Gulf and linking these to higher trophic levels. Since November 2022, I am now working at the GEMS Water Data Centre in Koblenz.
