Aliny P. F. Pires is a biologist with a Ph.D. in Ecology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Her main research interests lie in understanding the role of biodiversity in different contexts, including its role on ecosystem processes, functions, and services and for human well-being. In recent years, she has been investigating the role of biodiversity to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change. The researcher has several publications on the subject, in national and international journals, book chapters, and documents for decision-makers. She is currently a professor at the Rio de Janeiro State University and an associated researcher at the Brazilian Foundation for Sustainable Development and the Brazilian Network for Research on Global Climate Change (Rede Clima). Aliny also coordinates the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
