After training and board certification in internal medicine and medical oncology in Germany, I joined the University Hospital of Lausanne in 2008.
My principal research interests are
1. The impact of sex and gender on cancer biology and treatment outcomes,
2. Clinical trials in GI cancers and
3. Meta-analyses.
I have acted as principal investigator of multiple clinical trials, including EORTC-1203 on perioperative treatment of HER-2 positive gastric cancer (“INNOVATION-trial”), a collaboration between EORTC, the Korean Cancer study group and the Dutch Upper GI Cancer group, which is currently ongoing (http://www.eortc.org/research_field/clinical-detail/1203/ ).
Since 2014 I am co-chair of the EORTC Gastric Cancer Task Force, and
since 2019, chair of the newly created ESMO Gender Medicine Task Force (https://www.esmo.org/about-esmo/organisational-structure/esmo-task-forces/esmo-gender-medicine-task-force).
My reviewer activity includes journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, LANCET Oncology.
